The moment I accepted my life was a beautiful, chaotic, sometimes a little-messy-but-always-entertaining circus was the moment I felt a true release.

There's no sense in fighting the madness, but I've picked up a few tricks to keep the show going along the way.

I hope they work as well for you as they have [and still do] for me.

sassy starter : a poem from a non-wife.

Silly boys from all around, try to take her out on the town.
Suave boys with their smiles so bright, try to bed her for the night.
Stupid boys that never call, leave her banging her head up against the wall.
Simple boys, she over looks. She’d rather get lost in a reading a book.
Sexy boys often get her in trouble; those nights tend to start with Jack (make it a double).
All these boys – and the stories that go with them – provide entertainment, but there’s still somethin’ missing.
The boy who takes her breath away, she still has yet to meet;
The one who has the passion in his eyes and sweeps her off her feet.
In time he’ll make his appearance in her life …..
but for now she’ll sit back and enjoy the journey of being a non-wife.

sassy starter : pablo neruda

{ sharing my favorite poem by Pablo Neruda to start off a new week }

Wind on the Island
By Pablo Neruda

The wind is a horse:
hear how he runs
through the sea, through the sky.

He wants to take me: listen
how he roves the world
to take me far away.

Hide me in your arms
just for this night,
while the rain breaks
against sea and earth
its innumerable mouth.

Listen how the wind
calls to me galloping
to take me far away.

With your brow on my brow,
with your mouth on my mouth,
our bodies tied
to the love that consumes us,
let the wind pass
and not take me away.

Let the wind rush
crowned with foam,
let it call to me and seek me
galloping in the shadow,
while I, sunk
beneath your big eyes,
just for this night
shall rest, my love.

sassy starter *fearless charms

A few Sundays ago I ran across a tweet from the Huffington Post’s Healthy Living Becoming Fearless blog (have you read the book by Arianna Huffington?) asking What’s Your ‘Fearless Charm’? Without hesitation I snapped a photo of my #fearlesscharm and posted it via Instagram and Twitter.

I started scrolling through others’ fearless charms and reading the reasons behind them. There’s so many different things that give people an extra boost of confidence or hoping shimmer of luck. Trinkets and baubles, photos and phrases. Each having a special meaning so very different from the next. Later that day when waiting for a friend to meet up for a Sunday afternoon glass of wine, I found myself people watching, making up stories about the people as per usual. With each person passing, I caught myself wondering what their fearless charm is / would be, even the reasoning behind them or where they found them. It was a nice twist on the usual game of people watching, indeed.

Do you have a fearless charm? If not …… is it time to find one?

psst … my charm made the reader slide show. yay for ele!

sassy starter : women are ….

Women Are ….

I was first introduced to the documentary Miss Representation by my dear friend, Nikki, a few months ago.  Now, I wouldn’t exactly call myself a feminist because in all honesty, I feel the word itself has it’s strict limitations on what you’re allowed to be if you call yourself one, but to say I left the screening incredibly moved is an understatement. There were a few parts that were over the top for me, personally, but it really is an amazing documentary that I believe every person should take the time to watch. The video I’m posting today actually didn’t make the final cut, but it definitely should have because it gets you thinking. So now it’s your turn to fill in the blank:

Women are ……

sassy starter : (my own) rules to live by

Posted in life, Sassy Starter

I thought it’d be a great idea to do a whole “Rules to Live By” post for today’s Sassy Starter. I began searching handy dandy Pinterest to find such a list – and one that is beautifully displayed – but I was a little disheartened to find basically the same thing over and over and over. Now I love a good dose of Keep calm & carry on. or a little Live ~ Laugh ~ Love. as much as the next, but none of these were really fitting what I was looking for. I needed something with a bit more me to it. So what does a girl on a blogging deadline do? She puts down her lap top and writes out a few of her own rules of course.

Here’s what I came up with:

1. Never give up on love. It never gives up on you.
2. Always try your hardest not to put another sister down. Same  travels, different roads.
3. Learn how to cook at least one thing really, really well. Like really well.
4. When it feels like there’s no hope in sight, open a bottle of wine & cry.
5. If #4 happens to take place, drink a glass of champagne the next day. You were given another day to figure it out & that’s worth celebrating.
6. A little bit of glitter is good for the soul.
7. Take constructive criticism with grace & be sure to say thank you. Take all other forms of criticism with a grain of salt & remember: it’s not your fault someone peed in their cheerios that morning.
8. Be a bit superstitious. Always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder.
9. When in doubt, dance it out.

Fine Print: If none of these rules apply, make it up as you go. Just remember to breathe, have a little Faith & that a good red lipstick goes a long way.

I stopped at 9 and added the Fine Print as sort of a to-be-continued type clause. I think those do a pretty good job of covering a good number of situations which may come up in my life – at least for now anyways. It is a working set of Rules to Live By.

So how about you? Have any rules, guidelines or mantras you try to live by? Do they fit your current situation? Time to maybe rewrite a few of em?

Take a few minutes and marinate on that one. You can get back to me about it later.
